‘The Art of the City’ Selected Artists are . . .

On Friday, February 11th, 2022 Long Island Photo Gallery released the much-anticipated lineup for the Juried Exhibit ‘The Art of the City.’

The Long Island Photo Gallery curators Joanne Henig and Jessica Lempin were thrilled to notify all artists that applied for the open call. This exhibit will be on display in Southampton, New York at the spacious Southampton Cultural Center.

Henig and Lempin were excited to work with the ever-talented, award-winning professional architecture and landscapes photographer, Mike McLaughlin again. SELECTED JUROR: MIKE MCLAUGHLIN

Mike McLaughlin is a photographer specializing in architecture and landscapes. He has a background in quantitative analysis which informs his rigorous approach to composition and manifests itself in his technical precision and ordered style. Being based both on Long Island and in New York City he has the opportunity to interpret this clarity of form in rural as well as urban settings. His advanced post-processing skills enable both a more idealized view of the world depicted in his photography as well as enhanced and sometimes purely imagined interpretations of the subject. In a 2018 profile, Hamptons Art Hub aptly summed up his work as “distinguished by minimalism and simplicity paired with crisp focus, clean lines, and absence of extraneous detail”.

Initially self-taught he developed his skills through coursework at the International Center of Photography in New York City. He has exhibited in solo and group shows across Long Island and in Manhattan.
