Double Take: Reflections in Photography – A Call to Long Island Photographers

If you’ve been practicing photography for years — or perhaps decades — you already know the joy of seeing the world differently through the lens. You’ve honed your craft, developed patience, and sharpened your creative instincts. The Long Island Photo Gallery invites you to bring that experience forward in our upcoming exhibition, Double Take: Reflections in Photography, to be held at the Southampton Cultural Center in March 2026.

This open call is not simply about submitting an image. It’s about sharing the vision you’ve cultivated over a lifetime of seeing, experimenting, and interpreting the world.

Why Reflections?

The theme of reflections offers a powerful metaphor for seasoned photographers. After 40, life itself often feels like a reflection — we look back on experiences, notice patterns, and appreciate details we might have overlooked when younger. Reflections in photography work much the same way. They take the obvious and transform it, creating layers of meaning and unexpected beauty.

Whether you find your subject in water, glass, mirrors, or natural surfaces, reflections allow you to experiment with abstraction, symmetry, and storytelling. They invite the viewer to pause, reconsider, and, quite literally, take a “double take.”

For photographers with years of practice, this theme provides fertile ground for deeper exploration. The act of making photographs is no longer just about pressing the shutter. It’s about noticing the subtle interplay of light, shadow, and surface. Reflections demand both technical skill and a mature artistic eye — qualities that many photographers develop over time.

An Opportunity for Recognition

Exhibiting your work at the Southampton Cultural Center places you at the heart of one of Long Island’s most respected cultural venues. The Hamptons are known for their vibrant arts community, drawing collectors, curators, and enthusiasts. For photographers who have spent years building a body of work, this is a meaningful opportunity to step into the spotlight.

Prizes will also be awarded, with cash recognition for first, second, and third place, plus an honorable mention. Yet beyond awards, the real value lies in sharing your perspective with an engaged audience.
