OPEN CALL: Happy Little Trees

Juried photography open call – Submission deadline is March 20th, 2022

For this photographic artist opportunity, the gallery is seeking works that, as with the exhibit’s title, attempt to evoke the spirit of artist Bob Ross. He encouraged millions to explore their personal creativity and ‘happy little trees’ were a foundation for many of his artistic works. In this exhibit, the displaying artists will point their creative focus to trees in all of their many forms, whether they be happy or sad trees, big or small trees, or trees standing quietly alone against a landscape or trees as part of a mightly forest.

The Islip Arts Council is dedicated to leadership, advocacy, and excellence in the arts.
We present, produce and promote culturally responsive, high-quality programs in varied artistic disciplines for our diverse population. Our goal is to facilitate these programs in response to the needs of the Long Island community.
The Islip Arts Council was created in 1974. Two years later, Lillian Barbash was named chairperson, and the Islip Arts Council was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit arts organization.

Please submit up to 5 low-resolution (72 dpi) digital files for consideration in this exhibit with the longest side being 1920 pixels. No watermarks, please. The .jpg filename should match the image title.

Digital submission deadline: March 20th, 2022
Notification of accepted works: March 25th, 2022
Art drop-off due to Islip Arts Council at the IAC Gallery: April 29th (11 am – 4 pm) 1 day ONLY
Art pick-up from Islip Arts Council at the IAC Gallery: June 27th (11 am – 4 pm) & June 28th (11 am – 1 pm)
On display: May 1st – June 26th, 2022
Artist reception & awards presentation: Friday, June 17th, 2022 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm


Accepted entries will be notified by email by the end of the day, March 25th, 2022.  If you do not receive a notification on this date, please contact the Gallery: ENTRIES@LONGISLANDPHOTOGALLERY.COM or 888-600-5474.  Awards will be presented at the artists’ reception.


First Place: $125.
Second place: $75.
Third place: $50.

    • Only photographically based works depicting the theme will be considered.
    • The entry fee is $35 for five images to be considered and is non-refundable.
    • The entry fee is by credit card only.
    • All works must be for sale.  75% commission paid to all artists on all works sold.
