“This is preeminently the time to speak the truth, the whole truth, frankly and boldly. Nor need we shrink from honestly facing conditions in our country today. This great Nation will endure as it has endured, will revive and will prosper. So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself—nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance.” – Franklin D. Roosevelt, 1933.
COVID-19 virus cases are on the rise across our state (New York). Fear is now animating us. But fear is a liar.
When the virus arrived on our shores, initially we were excited for a break in our hurried schedules. Subconsciously we were wanting to prove how resilient we are. But this isolation has lingered and has carried some of us into a space of uncharacteristic behavior, worry, and doubt. What was once exciting has left some bored and uninspired. The jokes aren’t as funny as they were on day 1 of #SocialDistancing and the junk food has become tasteless and unappealing.
Fear cannot be the winner in the battle for your creativity. You cannot retreat from your craft and allow stress and struggle to thwart your advance. You are not powerless. You are an artistic warrior with the ability to escape all of the ‘noise’ and define your future. If you haven’t done so already, turn off the news. Turn any misery that you feel into mastery.
Advance your art. Delve into art as the ‘cure’. And when you look up at your masterpiece you will see that this virus will have surely retreated.
