Double Take: Reflections in Photography Exhibit

Double Take: Reflections in Photography Exhibit Presented by Long Island Photo Gallery

For the past several years, Long Island Photo Gallery proudly hosts an in-person photography event for our local Long Island creative community. This annual celebration brings Long Island photographers together to share their vision, elevate their art, and present their finished art to a public audience in an elegant and professional exhibition setting. We are thrilled to present our 2026 theme and open call for Long Island photographers: ‘Double Take: A Reflection Photography Exhibit,’ which will be held at the stunning Southampton Cultural Center in Southampton, New York.

This yearly exhibit has become a tradition for Joanne Henig and Jessica Lempin, the founders of Long Island Photo Gallery. This dynamic duo love showcasing and supporting the artistic talent found right here on Long Island. From Montauk to Manhattan, Long Island photography offers a unique blend of coastal beauty, urban edge, historic charm, and artistic diversity. Our mission is to give local photographers a platform that not only showcases their skill but also helps them expand their audience and grow their creative careers.

We are honored to return to the gorgeous and welcoming Southampton Cultural Center, a space known for its commitment to supporting the arts and providing meaningful cultural experiences. Located in the heart of Southampton Village, this venue offers an ideal backdrop for a fine art photography exhibit. The lighting, wall space, and flow of the gallery make every piece stand out—whether it’s a dramatic black-and-white landscape or a soft, abstract reflection captured in still water.

Being able to display your work at this venue adds an exciting layer of visibility. Throughout the exhibit window, the Southampton Cultural Center hosts numerous plays, performances, and community events. That means your photography will be seen by hundreds of visitors—art lovers, theater-goers, local residents, and tourists alike. This is an incredible opportunity for Long Island photographers who want to have their work experienced by a broader audience.

2026 Theme: ‘Double Take‘
A Celebration of Reflection Photography

This year’s theme, Double Take, focuses on the art of reflection. Reflection photography challenges photographers to look twice—first at the subject, then at the mirrored or refracted world around it. The result is a dynamic and visually compelling style of photography that reveals symmetry, distortion, contrast, and emotion in unexpected ways.

For this theme, we encourage artists to interpret “reflection” through their own creative lens. A few ideas include:

  • Landscape reflections: Glasslike water surfaces, morning lakes, tide pools, or city skylines mirrored at dusk.

  • Architectural reflections: Storefront windows, high-rise buildings, or repeating patterns in glass and metal.

  • Abstract reflections: Ripples, warped imagery, experimental macro reflections, or surreal distortions.

  • Black and white reflections: Strong tonal contrasts that transform simple reflections into striking fine art.

  • Street reflections: Puddles, car windows, rain-soaked sidewalks, or motion-filled urban scenes.

  • Nature reflections: Ice, dew drops, foggy mornings, or mirrored wildlife moments.

Artists of all styles—minimalist to bold, realistic to experimental—are invited to enter. Your vision is what makes this exhibit exciting and unique.
