Capture the scene with confidence and creativity. This is a workshop that focuses on honing photography skills specific to landscapes and the natural wonders of the great outdoors in a truly unique, natural setting at a magical time of year.
Learn the techniques that will turn your landscape images into works of art, such as using light to capture emotion, composition that connects with viewers, using camera techniques, and lens filters for optimal image impact and more.
Our instructor, Tony Graziano, has worked in conjunction with The Nature Conservancy, The U.S. Fish & Wildlife service and other conservation organizations to photograph dozens of Long Island’s most pristine locations. He will guide you through landscape shooting scenarios that will further develop your photography skills.
Edged by 12 miles of coastline, Mashomack Preserve on Shelter Island is considered one of the richest habitats in the Northeast. The preserve covers a third of Shelter Island with 2,039 acres of interlacing tidal creeks, mature oak woodlands, fields, and freshwater marshes. It is often referred to as the “Jewel of the Peconic” and we have been granted private access to shoot in restricted areas that are the most scenic within the preserve. Untouched and unique!
We’ll meet at the Mashomack Visitor’s Center at 9:30 am and take some time to shoot here before carpooling along a four-mile private dirt road to make our way to the historic Manor House and Ordway Wildlife Refuge – our primary shooting locations for the day. We ask that you please pack water for yourself.
We’ll take a lunch break around noon and be greeted by Jeremy Samuelson, Mashomack’s Director, who will give us an overview of The Nature Conservancy and this gorgeous preserve. Lunch will be provided for you as part of the event fee. After lunch we’ll head back out for more instruction and shooting as we explore more remote areas of the preserve not available to the public. We’ll wrap up the workshop around 5:30pm.
For those that want to really make their time on Shelter Island truly memorable, you may want to head over to the Crescent Beach area for sunset, shoot some more and grab dinner at one of the local restaurants before heading home. This is totally up to you.
We hope you can join us for this full day of photography and exploration with Long Island Photo Gallery and our good friend and instructor Tony Graziano at Mashomack Nature Conservatory on Shelter Island, NY. Also included in your event fee will be a donation to the Mashomack Nature Conservancy.
Your Paid RSVP is a must for this event.
